Workshops for Educators and Parents at Kenosha Public Library

Join me for an exciting day of learning at the Kenosha Public Library on October 5, 2024! Whether you're an educator or a parent, these workshops are designed to provide practical strategies to support early communication and language development in infants and toddlers.

Imitation and Communication: Making Connections (A workshop for early childhood educators)

9:30-10:30am CT

As early childhood educators, we know how essential imitation is for infants and toddlers in learning and communication. In this workshop, we’ll dive into how children observe and connect with caregivers through everyday activities like play and reading. I will explore sensorimotor learning and imitation as key elements of communication development, using examples from my My First Learn-to-Talk board book series. Attendees will also gain practical strategies for supporting both non-verbal and verbal communication skills, and we’ll discuss when to consider a referral to a speech-language pathologist.

You can sign up to attend this session in person or virtually.

Opportunities for Learning: Meeting Your Child Where They Are (A Workshop for Parents and Caregivers)

9:45-10:45 am CT

Reading time with infants and toddlers can sometimes feel frustrating, but it doesn’t have to be! In this session, I’ll help parents and caregivers understand that learning from books doesn’t require children to sit still and listen. I’ll share strategies that speech-language pathologists use to foster communication skills, using examples from my My First Learn-to-Talk board book series. Whether your child is bouncing around or glued to your lap, you’ll leave with new ideas to make reading time joyful and stress-free. Plus, you’re welcome to bring your little ones—books and toys will be provided!

You can sign up to attend the session in person or virtually.

The Power of Verbal Routines (A Workshop for Parents and Caregivers)

11:30-12:00 pm CT

Verbal routines—phrases we repeat the same way every time—are a powerful tool for communication development in young children. In this interactive session, I’ll demonstrate how you can use verbal routines during reading time, especially with my My First Learn-to-Talk Books series. You’ll leave with practical techniques to make the most of everyday opportunities for language learning, and feel confident in supporting your child’s development through simple, repeatable routines.

You can sign up to attend this session in person or virtually.

Don't miss out on these engaging and informative sessions—sign up today and take your first step toward fostering better communication skills for your little ones!
